LETTER FROM LINDA LILIENFELD

Director, Founder Let’s Talk About Water

Welcome to Mayors Make Movies.

This initiative is presented by Let’s Talk About Water a film and water event formula to start a conversation.

It was inspired by the OECD report:  A survey on Water in African Cities prepared for World Water Day 2021 and the Mayor’s Roundtable for the World Water Forum Dakar Senegal 2022! The Data revealed that Mayors are on the frontline of water problems – too much, too little, too dirty – and that young people will be 60% of the population of the African continent in 10 years. These two constellation points Mayors + Youth sparked the creation of Mayors Make Movies – an initiative to foster communication about water issues and solutions by the making of short films.

Young people are visually literate and highly engaged with digital and social media; Mayors and their administrations need to build bridges amongst themselves and our youth!

We are taking our first steps through the production of two films: one in Dakar, Senegal, the host city of the World Water Forum 2022, as well as its neighbor Banjul, the Gambia. We are in partnership with the OECD, the UCLG-Africa, African Film Festival Inc., and the Yennenga Center in Dakar to bring this initiative to light and life.

The site will become a home and an archive to shine a spotlight on the great work of the African Mayors in solving water problems, the OECD Water Governance Initiative, and a network of African Mayors and Youth! We hope to make this a global initiative! Join Us!

The OECD Principles on Water Governance are the cornerstone of this project and jumping-off point into the future.  Let’s find ways to broaden communications, access, and engagement in water science, governance, and participation.

Join us, and Let’s Talk About Water!

Warm regards,

Linda Lilienfeld
